Town Council Debate Being Hosted by Southbridge Democrat and Republican Town Committees

Posted by Bob Chernisky 6/2/16 1:54PM

The Southbridge Democrat and Republican Town Committees announce that once again they are jointly sponsoring a round-robin style debate to be held at the Town Hall giving candidates for Town Council and School Committee an opportunity to introduce themselves and their ideas to the voters. The event will be moderated again by Victor Somma, Quinsigamond Community College Director of Community Affairs and the QCC Southbridge Administrator.

This year there are six candidates running to fill three seats on the Town Council but just three seeking the three open spots on the School Committee. Although the School Committee candidates are unopposed, they will have a chance to present themselves and their thoughts to the public.

“In a time when American politics are so polarized,” says SRTC's Bob Chernisky, "our two committees are proud that we've been able to come together and host these debates. We believe they have been quite valuable in allowing voters to get a good look at candidates before going to the polls."

The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 16th in the Town Council Chambers. The School Committee portion will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed immediately by the Town Council debate. Both will be broadcast live via Cable Access, then re-broadcast in the days prior to the June 28th election.
